PREVENTION:
Regular Dental Checkups & Cleanings
Preventative Care With A Purpose
-
The true core behind our practice is prevention. Typically, this involves regular recall visits on semi-annual basis to evaluate your overall oral health state. This will involve screening for oral cancer and an evaluation for the presence of common oral health related diseases such as cavities, gum diseases, and TMJ issues. Taking pride and care in your oral health is key to your overall health.

Prevent Cavities: Extend The Life Of Your Tooth
-
Tooth decay is one of the most common diseases affecting children and adults of all ages. It is primarily caused by the streptococcus mutans bacteria which is highly prevalent in the mouth. This bacteria breaks down starches(sugars) that exist in the mouth and produce a lactic acid that can contribute to demineralization of enamel/dentin and ultimately the formation of a tooth cavity. It is important to understand this basic mechanism behind tooth decay so that you can work to control the two main factors involved in the process, bacteria and sugar, that can negatively affect your teeth. Primarily, if you reduce the amount of sugar consumed in your diet you will limit the amount of available oral sugar that the bacteria can digest. This will help prevent tooth decay. Certain patients are more susceptible to tooth decay and thus require more routine dental checkups. Dental sealants are a great way to help prevent the incidence of tooth decay over a patient's life, and it is especially important to have all of your kids examined for tooth morphology risk factors. If your child's teeth have deep grooves and pits then it is best to have them sealed early on before bacteria start to buildup inside the grooves and pits. Preventative sealants are a great way to prevent cavities during the child's developmental and adolescent years. Preventative dental care is about ensuring the long-term success of your teeth and smile.
