Prevent Cavities: Extend The Life Of Your Tooth

Tooth decay is one of the most common diseases affecting children and adults of all ages.  It is primarily caused by the streptococcus mutans bacteria which is highly prevalent in the mouth.  This bacteria breaks down starches(sugars) that exist in the mouth and produce a lactic acid that dissolves the tooth to form a cavity.  It is important to understand this basic mechanism behind tooth decay so that you can work to control the two main factors, bacteria and sugar, that can negatively affect your teeth.  Primarily, if you reduce the amount of sugar consumed in your diet you will limit the amount of available oral sugar that the bacteria can digest.  This will help prevent tooth decay.  At Personal Care Dentistry, we use the highest quality digital x-ray systems to identify any decay process taking place in the tooth that we cannot see with our eyes.  The x-rays are especially useful in helping to diagnose decay that may exist between your teeth.

Certain patients are more susceptible to tooth decay and thus require more routine dental checkups.  Dental sealants are a great way to help prevent the incidence of tooth decay over a patient's life, and it is especially important to have all of your kids examined for tooth morphology risk factors.  If your child's teeth have deep grooves and pits then it is best to have them sealed early on before bacteria start to buildup inside the grooves and pits.  Preventative sealants are a great way to prevent cavities during the child's developmental and adolescent years.  Preventative dental care is about ensuring the long-term success of your teeth and smile.

Veneers

A PersonalCare VENEER MAKEOVER

At PersonalCareDentistry, we have a comprehensive approach to all of our veneer cases. This approach starts with identifying your concerns.  What exactly are you dissatisfied with? Is it the color, shape, alignment, size, length, staining, etc?  Then, we obtain full arch diagnostic impressions and photographs.  With that information, we can develop a set of proposed veneer types just for you.  We review these proposed options with you, and then together decide on one that best fits your mouth, personality, and overall appearance.  Once we've finalized our plan, we begin your transformation process and within as soon as 1 visit can start changing your smile forever.

Custom Characterized Veneers

We select our veneers specifically to possess the highest quality porcelain(glass) that matches your natural teeth in color and translucency.  The best part is that people you meet won't be able to tell you are wearing veneers.  We can use veneers to correct for size discrepancies, color problems, staining, and tooth defects to give you the smile you deserve and more confidence to show off your teeth to friends, family, partners, coworkers, etc.

You May Want Veneers If Your Teeth Are:

  • Broken

  • Spacing problems

  • Chipped

  • Cracked

  • Stained

  • Discolored

Dental Implants

What's a Dental Implant?

Every day patients come to us with a major concern that they are missing a tooth, or multiple teeth, and would like to have them replaced with dental implants.  Dental Implants are the ideal way to replace missing teeth mainly because they are fixated to your bones much in the same way as a normal tooth root.

Dental Implants are made of titanium.  This titanium is 100% biocompatible with your body, which allows for easy osseointegration into your bones.

Not everyone is a candidate for dental implants, and so it is important to understand that a proper assessment of your health status and availability and quality of bone must be performed first in order to determine if you qualify for implant tooth replacement.

Implants typically take 4-6 months to complete for standardized cases.  This is because it typically takes 3-4 months for the implant itself to heal within the bone before it is ready to accept the crown that replaces your missing tooth.

The best thing about implants is that we can be more conservative in trying to maintain the integrity of your adjacent teeth, and ultimately the implant will function and look almost exactly like your normal teeth.

As a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Dr. Diorio is here to help you navigate through your dental implant needs and help you achieve the functional and aesthetic satisfaction that implant dentistry can offer you.

Teeth Whitening

BRIGHTEN YOUR SMILE

Teeth Whitening is an easy and effective way to start changing your smile and appearance today.  And there is no reported irreversible damage that occurs due to bleaching.  In other words, it is completely safe.  Tooth sensitivity can develop but it is completely reversible and typically only lasts 2-3 days.  However, to combat tooth sensitivity our protocol requires that the patient use Sensodyne toothpaste 2 weeks prior to the start of their tooth whitening treatment.

We always use custom whitening trays.  This allows you to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your home on your own time and leisure.  You can whiten while you read, while you watch the kids, or prepare dinner.  The custom tray is designed to fit your mouth exclusively so that it is comfortable each time you take the trays in and out of your mouth.  You simply will apply the whitening gel to the tray and then place the tray over your teeth and allow for the whitening agent to do the work while you wait for the results. A typical treatment is approximately 30 minutes/day for 7 days.  We also offer in-office treatments to accomplish faster results.

At Personal Care Dentistry we approach each teeth whitening case the same way.

  • It starts with a discussion of your whitening expectations and an analysis of your tooth enamel consistency.

  • Then we obtain pre-treatment records of your tooth color with photographs.  From there we fabricate custom bleaching trays fit specifically for your teeth and provide you with a high-powered bleaching concentrate agent to best service your goals.

  • We offer both take-home bleaching options and in-office treatment options.
